High-durability fluids engineered to improve system reliability, optimize heat transfer, and reduce maintenance overheads across critical manufacturing applications.
In modern manufacturing, process engineering, and heavy industry, compressed air is often considered the "fourth utility." From petrochemical refining and pharmaceutical processing to high-volume automotive assembly lines, the continuous operation of rotary screw, reciprocating, and centrifugal air compressors is absolutely critical. However, keeping these machines running at optimal performance requires a deep understanding of fluid dynamics and tribological science.
Globally, industrial facilities face mounting pressure to reduce energy consumption, achieve strict carbon neutrality goals, and limit unscheduled maintenance downtime. Poorly formulated compressor fluids fail to withstand high thermal loads, resulting in oxidative degradation, thermal breakdown, and the formation of sludge, varnish, and carbon deposits on internal components. These deposits insulate cooling systems, restrict fluid pathways, and significantly accelerate wear on rotors, bearings, and valves.
To address these challenges, procurement teams and operations directors are moving away from traditional mineral oils in favor of advanced synthetic technologies. They need specialized lubricants that deliver high oxidation resistance, excellent water separation (demulsibility), and a high viscosity index to ensure consistent film thickness across broad temperature ranges.
As a leading exporter and manufacturer, Shandong Longhai Lubrication Technology delivers tailored formulations that directly address these needs, helping global enterprises achieve high operational efficiency, maximize equipment lifespans, and significantly lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

Exploring the molecular design and additive chemistry that define high-performance air compressor lubricants.
We formulate lubricants using premium Group II hydrocracked base stocks, synthetic polyalphaolefins (PAO), and ester chemistry (Group V) to match specific operating environments. This design reduces thermal breakdown and extends oil drain intervals up to 8,000+ hours in rotary screw systems.
Our proprietary formulation chemistry features ashless dispersants and high-potency antioxidants. By keeping oxidation precursors in suspension, our fluids prevent them from settling as hard varnish deposits on critical rotors, separators, and bearings.
Moisture condensation is a common issue in air compressors. Our lubricants are designed with advanced water-separating additives, allowing water to quickly separate and drain off. This prevents corrosive wear and maintains a strong lubricating film.
During compression, air temperatures can exceed 100°C, exposing the fluid to intense oxidative stress. Standard mineral oils oxidize rapidly under these conditions, forming carbon deposits that clog oil filters and damage rotors. Longhai's synthetic compressor fluids utilize custom additive packages that neutralize free radicals, maintaining oil viscosity and protecting components from premature wear.
Low-viscosity friction in our PAO-based and ester-based lubricants reduces fluid resistance, optimizing mechanical efficiency and lowering power consumption. Additionally, we verify that our formulas are fully compatible with common industrial seal materials (such as Viton, NBR, and Fluorosilicone) to prevent leaks and maintain system pressure.

The global lubrication industry is undergoing a major shift driven by two primary trends: environmental sustainability and advanced equipment diagnostics. As part of international carbon reduction efforts, industrial operators are looking for ways to lower energy consumption across all manufacturing processes. Choosing a high-efficiency compressor lubricant is a practical step toward achieving these efficiency goals.
Low-friction synthetic fluids reduce parasitic drag on compressor rotors, which directly lowers the electrical energy required to run the system. Over thousands of hours of operation, even minor improvements in mechanical efficiency can lead to significant reductions in overall electricity use.
Additionally, modern fleet managers and plant operators are increasingly adopting predictive maintenance strategies. Rather than relying on fixed oil change schedules, they monitor the actual condition of the lubricant to guide service intervals. By checking metrics such as acid number, copper content, and particle count, they can maximize the use of the fluid while preventing unexpected equipment failures.
Longhai is actively developing the next generation of eco-friendly fluids and advanced synthetic formulations to support these changing industrial requirements, helping our global partners improve efficiency, minimize waste, and maintain reliable operations.
Answers to common technical questions about compressor fluids, maintenance, and formulation selection.
Varnish is typically caused by high temperatures and chemical oxidation of the lubricant. When a fluid degrades, it forms insoluble materials that settle on hot metal surfaces, creating a sticky residue. This varnish can insulate heat exchangers and cause bearings to run hot. Using a high-quality synthetic fluid with reliable oxidation resistance helps prevent varnish and keep internal components clean.
As air is compressed, moisture condenses inside the system. If the lubricant doesn't separate from water effectively, it forms an emulsion that reduces the oil's load-carrying capacity and increases the risk of rust. Demulsibility is the fluid's ability to separate cleanly from water, allowing moisture to settle at the bottom of the reservoir so it can be drained away easily.
Group II mineral oils are processed from crude oil and offer standard performance with typical oil change intervals of 2,000 to 4,000 hours. Group IV Polyalphaolefins (PAO) are fully synthetic hydrocarbons that feature a more uniform molecular structure. PAOs offer better thermal stability, a higher viscosity index, and excellent cold-temperature performance, allowing for drain intervals of up to 8,000+ hours under normal operating conditions.
Viscosity selection depends on the compressor type, operating temperature, and discharge pressure. Rotary screw compressors typically require an ISO VG 32, 46, or 68 fluid, with ISO VG 46 being the most common. Reciprocating compressors, which operate under higher pressure, generally require heavier oils like ISO VG 100 or 150. Always consult the OEM manual for specific viscosity recommendations.
Synthetic esters offer excellent lubricity and thermal stability, but they can cause certain sealing materials, like low-nitrile Buna-N rubbers, to swell or soften. For systems using ester-based fluids, it is best to use compatible seals made of Viton (FKM) or high-nitrile rubber. Our technical team can help you select a fluid that is compatible with your equipment's sealing materials.
